In the Darkness, God's Grace Shines
THIS IS A HYFC STORY
I forget exactly what year it was, somewhere between 1989 and 1992. I was the director of McKinley/Roosevelt club. We were doing one of our kick-off bashes to introduce students to the club. It was going to be a Pizza Party at Roosevelt High School. I remember that the spiritual battle was pretty thick because the night before, someone set a fire to the cafeteria. Although there was minimal damage, there was some concern whether the party could move forward. Prayerfully and graciously, God allowed the party to go on.
I don’t remember much that happened that night because it was such a blur. I do remember that we were serving Pizza Hut pizzas, which was a first in Youth For Christ. We were able to get some substantial donors on board. I also remember that a bunch of us got busted for approaching YFC board members and getting donations from them.
But the one thing that sticks out in my mind was when we were setting up the cafeteria, which is located in a basement type of situation, all of sudden it felt like the lights were turned off. We looked around and the lights were still on but it was still darker than it was before. Then we realized that many, many students were lining up outside the cafeteria and they were blocking the sunlight from coming in. It was an incredible sight.
I also remember breaking down and crying, being humbled by God’s amazing generosity.
